THE EHOS SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT FUND

Established in 2019, the EHOS Scholarship Endowment Fund is designed to supplement tuition for public and private school children who would not be able to attend our programs without financial assistance. In turn, the additional funding is invested right back into our programs by covering equipment costs, historic boat maintenance, staff training, and capital improvements on our campus.

The Fund is intended for any gift but it is especially for foundation, corporate, and planned or estate gifts that will, by their very nature, make a profound impact on the School. This endowment fund, by design, will go directly to support our ongoing needs and secure the future of the School.

Michael F. Hertz Historic boat fund

The Michael F. Hertz Historic Boat Fund help preservation of Echo Hill Outdoor School’s historic boats, including the Skipjack Elsworth (built in 1901), the Buyboat Annie D (built in 1957), and the authentic Chesapeake Bay workboats, Spirit and Twilight (built in 1944 and 1911, respectively). These vessels are used to teach students about the Bay and its ecosystems as well as the history and culture of the region. They are a valuable resource and directly support the school’s mission.

The fund was established by Ronnie Edelman, Michael’s wife, to recognize his friendship with fellow Echo Hill Outdoor School founders and his devotion to the school, which he faithfully served as board member for 40 years.

Michael Hertz, Deputy Assistant Attorney General, Civil Division, served the U.S. Department of Justice with distinction for over 36 years. A tireless advocate, Mike’s work in combating fraud against the government resulted in tens of billions of dollars recovered for the U.S. Treasury and federal and state programs.

He received numerous awards throughout his career, including the Stanley D. Rose Award in 2002, the Civil Division’s highest honor.

Heart Camp at Echo Hill Outdoor School

Heart Camp is a partnership begun in 2008 between Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and EHOS. This special camp is designed to provide a recreational week of laughter, fun, and childhood magic for pediatric patients who have had heart and/or lung transplants or who have pulmonary hypertension. CHOP medical and child specialists accompany the campers for this amazing week of independence away from home, full of joy in the out-of-doors.
